Steps to Foster Change

Hello All,

Whether you're fed up with what you're doing now or you really want to improve a mediocre existence, you can make an instant decision to change now so that you can enjoy a better, more rewarding life. Sometimes, you just need to act first and reflect later instead of continuing to pile up dreams without doing anything more about them. Changing your life around is a journey, but you can handle it.

I suggest writing out what you'd like to change. Think about what's working well, what you dislike about yourself or situation, and then pick out the top things that you would like to change. Read everything that you've written. You've just created a quick, personal road map for change. Over time, you can refine this road map, For now, you've broken down those large and looming "it's all too hard to change" feelings and turned them into some concrete steps.

The next step is to take action! Figure out what you can within the next 48 hours to make a difference in your situation. Don't think about it, just do it. We make the mistake of saying that it's not the right time. Anytime is a good time for change.

Be patient with yourself. You may have taken some big steps to change your life in a few hours, but getting used to the changes will take some time. Don't slip back into your old ways or your old circumstances just because you feel scared or uncertain about your choices. Give yourself 6 months to a year to adjust to your new climate. After some time has passed, if the change didn't make you happy, then you can always backtrack to the way things were.

Blessings,
Archuleta

Another Birthday

Hello All,

April 1 was my birthday. I woke up having turned 42 years old and felt reflective. My birthday always makes me think about where I am in life, what I am doing that is adding value to my life, and what things need to change. It's almost like a "second wind" of New Year's Day - a reminder that change and renewal are just a breath away.

Should I be further along? Why am I still doing that? How do I explain this? What is going on? I ask too many questions!

Truth is, God has me right where He wants me which is actually in an uncomfortable place. Leading up to this day, God had to point out some things to me that I didn't necessarily want to deal with. It's a pattern. Certain things have not happened because I haven't resolved other things. I am not where I want to be because I haven't resolved certain issues. God is working on me, because He wants to take me to the next level. And I am more than ready.

As we get older, we really do become more aware. At least we should. Being truthful to yourself means facing the good and bad. Acknowledging that time flies and if we don't accept everything in our lives, it will eventually come back around.

Birthdays are meant to celebrate the day God chose to bring us into this world. And, staying on His course allows us to celebrate with a clean slate.

Now, that's better.

Blessings,
Archuleta

When Will Your Life Begin?

Hello All,
Yes, I am guilty of worrying about things I don't have any control over. It takes me a minute to turn it over to God. I love the Lord! However, I always believe that I can figure things out or fix it. We are all guilty of that! It's simply because we look at our problems through natural eyes. We just don't recognize the supernatural eyes that God sees our situations through. We believe God for some things some of the time. We trust Him only when it's convenient for us. The inconsistency lies in us all, because we are human. It's a daily process that requires prayer.

Life begins when we let go and let God. He wants us to trust Him completely and turn over all our problems and cares to Him. In our waiting, we pray and remain faithful. Hard to do? Of course, it is! The flesh wants immediate results and we tend to get frustrated if God is not operating on our timetable. Then, we think about everything in our lives that is not "working" right. That overwhelming feeling can cause sleepless nights and a restless spirit.

Today, think about where you are stuck. That area in your life that keeps repeating itself over and over in a negative way. Relationships? Finances? Losing Weight? Following your passion? What is it that you have yet to turn over to God that you've been trying to do on your own?

Ask yourself why you haven't. The core of that answer will most likely boil down to fear. We may want to stop choosing the wrong mate, become debt free, lose weight, or pursue our dreams. But we get into a comfort zone and start to believe that things will always be this way. The problem is too big or has gone too far. We don't have what it takes or dreams were meant for someone else. What will you lose by giving it over to God? What will you lose by starting to believe that you are worthy?

Let the fear go and let God handle it. Yes, it will be hard. But think about the last 5 years, 10 years, or more that you've been stuck in the same thing! In order to get what you've never had, you have to be willing to do things you've never done. You are going to have to step out on faith and allow God to work. He won't do it without your permission. You have to turn it over to Him freely and trust in His result.

In the meantime, make room for the blessing. Make room for your the life you were meant to live.

The Coldest Winter Season

Hello All,
I think back to when I was a kid and how much I loved snow days. No school, my favorite cartoons, and my notebook. My mama would let me stay in my pajamas all day and I could eat whatever I wanted. It was the best! As an adult, snow days are still the best! I curl up on the couch with my notebook and vivid imagination. I get ideas, poems, and stories. Have you noticed that as you get older, there are some things that stay the same. I still love going to Crown center, writing in the park, and riding roller coasters. I still think Batman is the bomb superhero and peanut butter & jelly is everything!

I do believe that God has had me in the coldest winter season ever. A time of reflection, preparation, and harvest. A time for Him to impart patience to my spirit and wisdom to my mind. Those things that have always been familiar to me - I draw near to them during this time. I am waiting on the Lord in faith. I know that He has things in store but I must be patient. That is a hard thing for me to do!

Hold on to the little things, because they are the foundation of who you are. They are the things that you can lean on, get excited about and depend on. Life is going to keep moving - sometimes not in the way you want it to. Find ways to enjoy life when you are in your winter season. It will create a harvest for spring.

Blessings,
Archuleta

A New Year?

Hello All,
Recently, I sat down to read one of my journals from 2013. This particular journal is huge and also includes 2012. The more I read, the more disturbed I became. Some of my prayers and entries were repetitive. It was eye-opening to read. This is what happens a lot, with many of us. We go round and round with the same issues, same problems, and same hang-ups. Although 2014 has begun, is it really a new year? We are just taking the same stuff from year to year - not doing anything different.

Changing careers, losing weight, improving finances, or letting go of poor habits always rank at the top of our lists. Why can't we do the work? Why do we put ourselves through this year after year?

Too comfortable?
We can be afraid of how things will change, although we desperately want to. It's easier to stay where we are than to do the work and change. We have to hold on to the reason why we want to make change in the first place. It has to be greater than the fear. Marianne Williamson said in her book, Return to Love, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Make Time
Anything worth having requires us to roll up our sleeves and give the time needed. Action speaks louder than words. We have to take the very things that we are afraid of and push through. The time that we put towards our goals will pay off.

Brand New
As 2014 continues, make a conscious effort to change - for real. Decide that you don't want to look back and determine that you are still in the midst of the same stuff. Decide that you want progress! Decide that you will not be afraid of living your best life. You deserve it and God wants that for you. It can truly be a new year - every year!

Sometimes, it is just what we asked for

Hello All,

I became a full-time writer on October 5, 2012. This was the date that I was "let go" from my full-time job. Ironically, I wasn't happy there and wanted to leave but my plan was to stay there until I found another job. Well, my plan wasn't moving fast enough for God, nor was it the right path. See, I would have stayed there even at the risk of becoming more unhappy. I didn't want to leave without having another job in my pocket. I was worried about how I was going to pay my bills and survive with a job! I also wanted to leave that job on my own terms. God had to show me that my terms did not take precedence over His.

The funny thing is that I had been praying to God to allow me to be a full-time writer - somehow. When it happened, it had to settle into my system first. After it settled in, I realized what God had done. He had answered my prayers and it was time for me to write like never before.

Although my unemployment is running out soon, I have to believe that God wouldn't bring me this far to leave me. I have to believe that God is going to sustain me and propel me even further into my purpose. I was meant to be a writer and this is my time.

My "job" right now is to have faith. Will I step out on faith and trust God? Even when everything around me seems grim, will I continue to trust Him? The answer is yes. I can't do anything but go by His terms now. Sometimes, God reduces you down to where you have no choice but to lean on Him. God is my only answer. As I write, I will have faith and listen to His terms for a change.

Blessings,
Archuleta

Go Get It

Hello All,
I woke up this morning, had a cup of tea and wrote in my prayer journal. As I wrote, I began to feel a wave of motivation. I quickly wrote down what the spirit was giving me:

Don't doubt yourself
Don't procrastinate
Be creative
Think like a mogul
Connect more with family & friends
Attend classes, workshops and events to perfect your craft
Go for it
Make a plan
Be confident
Expand your horizons
Have fun

I thought about this list all day. Even during my weekly pilgrimage to Wal-Mart, I continued to think about this list and realized that God was giving me the framework; answers to prayers. God knows that I appreciate when things are straight forward! He also knows that I am not afraid to work hard towards things that I am passionate about. I have taken the stance that I don't want God to fix things for me. "Please put the right resources and people in place so that I can achieve what I am trying to do."

Later in the day, I was reading an article about freelance writing. I had an "Aha!" moment. I had to text my good friend Michelle giving her a list of things that came to my mind; things I want to do. I told her because I know she "gets it" and she would understand my list. She wouldn't question it, try to talk me out of it or be confused by it. She would just get it and say "Awesome! Do it all!" It's the same thing God tells me each day in my prayer time.

I claimed GO GET IT as my personal theme for 2013. My vision board is placed right beside my writing desk (which is really the dining room table) and it radiates each day. Now, it's time to do it. It's time to go get it!

Blessings,
Archuleta

It's a Small World

Hello All,
Have you ever found out that someone you know is married to a family member of someone you really don't want to know but have to know anyway?? LOL! I know, sounds crazy. But, this is an example of situations that cause us to shake our heads and say, "It's a small world!" The world is not as big as it seems. People are not as far away as we think. Life is more on our side that we know.

My mother convinced me at an early age that everyone comes into our life for a reason; to teach us lessons and add chapters to our story. The reason may not be good, but the lesson will change us into the person that we are to become. Years later, you may look back and finally realize why a certain person was placed into your life.

My world seems to be shifting a lot lately. Things are happening that I don't quite understand, while other things are crystal clear. I find myself just praying and asking God for strength and clarity. When the time is right, God reveals things to me and brings the right people in my life. In addition, some people have worn out their welcome and it is time for them to go.

It is a small world. And when things (and people) show you just how small this world is, just go with it. There is something to be learned and the lesson will save you.

Blessings,
Archuleta

Lord, I want it all!

Hello All,
Convenience - that's what I like. More importantly, my personality appreciates it! I visited Walmart today and I realized, once again, the obvious. Where else on earth can you refill a prescription, get an oil change, grocery shop, redecorate every room in your house, buy a new tv, get a mani and pedi, get fitted for a hearing aid, get your hair done, get your taxes done and grab a Subway sandwich on the way out! One stop shopping at its best!

Walmart spoils us and gives us the assurance that we can take care of everything; we don't have to go anywhere else. This is what the Lord provides to us; a one stop shop for everything we need.

God is the source of our strength and has everything we need. He provides a "one stop" for it all! We don't have togo anywhere else.

Where else on earth can you be forgiven, get saved, be enlightened and encouraged, do all things, have your mind renewed, healed, sanctified and filled with the holy ghost, be delivered and set free!

Blessings,
Archuleta

Shifting Gears

Hello All,
You have heard the familiar questions, "Is your glass half empty of half full?" This question gages whether you are more of a pessimist or optimist towards life and situations. As I prayed this morning, I asked God for strength and to allow me to discover the tools and resources in order to solve my own problems. I don't want God to bail me out or rescue me. I don't want to find myself back in the same boat ever again.

Lately, my prayers have taken a shift. I realized that I was whining too much. I also realized that I was on my knees with the same occurring issues, like a rolling ball. It had gotten on my nerves, so I knew that God had to be irritated with me as well. I started to think about what is happening in my life, what is not happening and what things should be happening. I have had a hand in my own fate, however, other things in life have been beyond my control.

I questioned myself in the mirror. What is in my control and am I living my life fearless? What am I afraid of giving up? Those answers led me to my disobedience and thinking that I can do a better job at solving the problem.

Not one of us is perfect. We all have flaws, strengths and weaknesses. We all have things on the table that cause us to be disobedient and fearful to God. Are you a broken record in your prayers and supplication? Is it something you do for the sake of doing it or are do you desire to grow from your prayer life?

God is not in the business of snapping his fingers and making everything okay. We have a part to play in our personal relationship with him. I discovered that I needed to shift gears; refresh and renew my relationship with Jesus Christ. I needed to put the spark back into our daily talks and my requests. He desires for us to come to the conclusion that He is all we need. Our desperation and disappointments in life serve as lessons to us. Have you learned the lesson? Are you growing or still in the same situation you've been in for the last 10 years?

God is waiting for you.

Blessings,
Archuleta

Still Hibernating

Hello All,
Snow storm #1 has passed and storm #2 is on its way. Stocked up on groceries, movies, hot chocolate and I have enough notebooks and pens for a small lifetime, so I'm good. I'm going to sit in my favorite chair and write. It makes me happy just thinking about it! This hibernating season is something I look forward to all year. It is a time for clarity and reflection. I need it and it needs me. I will come forth with new discoveries and plans. Always do and always will.

2013 is the year of change. I feel it and understand that I just need to be in position. That position starts with my pen.

Dear Archuleta (a letter to my younger self)

Dear Archuleta,
This life is as unpredictable as it is wonderful. A simple statement, but something that I always want you to remember as you blossom into the woman you will one day become. When you are a child, those closest to you will tell you exactly what you want to hear. They will tell you that you are smart and pretty, but being smart is what will last. I know that girls will use their looks to get the boys. But, you just keep being who you are. You don’t need to do all that. At this age, your self-esteem is being formed. Sometimes, those closest to you will say or do things to break your confidence. Yes, it will hurt your feelings…bad. But, channel those feelings into your writing. Never allow people and their words to shape who you are. As you get older, you will learn to stop trying to “fit in.” You are going to look around and see that light skin and long hair are favored. You will travel down this road a lot. You will survive and get through it. Your cocoa skin is to be celebrated and please remember that you are more than good enough. God said so. You will not understand this until you are much older, but one day you will look at yourself in the mirror and realize how beautiful you really are. One day, you will be a positive voice for women. Pay attention to the relationships around you as a child, because they will help mold and shape you as an adult. You will recall everything Mama and Nana taught you and it will set you apart as a woman. This is what real men look for in women, believe it or not. It’s not about the girls you see in the videos and magazines, but it’s about character and real love. Just to let you know, high school is going to be tough. Mainly because you won’t think like everybody else, but also because of your battle with low self esteem. You will make good decisions about who to give your heart to and that is a credit to your intuition. Of course, you will make mistakes and it will take you a minute to bounce back. But, you will and you will do what feels right. You always do. Trust your gut instincts and never apologize for doing what is right for you. Eventually, you will meet someone who lets you know that love is real. You will have a life with this person and become one. Always remember to put yourself first and never lose who you are as a person. You love deeply and try everything you know to keep the relationship in tact. But know that sometimes, even what you thought would last forever won’t. Don’t be afraid to ask for what you need in a relationship. And don’t be afraid to give 100%. It’s okay to do what is best for you. Ask questions and know where you stand. Believe that if love can find you once, it will certainly find you again. It will be even sweeter because you will be wiser. You will find out who your friends are in times of trouble and who has your back. Don’t forget about your friends. Sometimes, you have the tendency to shut people out. It’s not that you intend to do it, but you’ll get so consumed with what is happening in your personal world that you forget to lean on others for help. Your career goals will come to fruition and you will eventually pursue your passion and become so fulfilled in your life. You will have people that support you and cheer you on each step of the way. Your creativity will blossom more than you can imagine right now. It will carve your very existence. Fear and pain will be in your life due to tragic events. Please don’t allow those circumstances to run your life. They will eventually turn into strength, but it will be up to you. Don’t waste valuable time in your life by dwelling in the past. Practice forgiveness and understanding. Face things head on and always communicate how you feel. Be patient and know that your time will come. Always pray and ask God for guidance. You can make it through all of your problems in life. Don’t worry about love. Love will find you and make you feel safe. It won’t be perfect, because nothing is. You will accept love and be a better person because of it. He’ll be excited for you as you live out your dreams. He will tell you that you are beautiful everyday…and mean it. He will challenge you to go further and push harder. Of everything you will go through, know that your faith and obedience will bring you to your destiny in every area of your life. I will say it again; always put yourself first! Follow your path and no one else’s. Don’t apologize for who you are or what you look like. You are going to grow into a very beautiful woman. Always be humble and gracious. Keep smiling. Be happy. Live your life to the fullest.

Love you so much,
Archuleta

Are our little girls growing up too fast?

Hello All,
Studies show that girls as young as 9 understand very clearly what sexy is and what it looks like. When I was 9, I was playing with Barbie and Baby dolls, watching cartoons and waiting for the ice cream truck to come down my block. Being sexy was the furthest thing from my mind. Now, our girls are hailing Beyonce and Rihanna as their "role models" and trying to live up to an unattainable standard.

Our society is over-sexed and all the images on television, in the movies and magazines and on social media have almost brain washed our young queens into a fantasy worled that takes them away from who they are. Who's fault is this? Society or ours? Can we expect society to be responsible for what our girls see and hear? No, that is the job of parents, guardians and family. This type of exposure lends itself to growing up too fast, having sex early and low self esteem.

Young girls are too focused on how their bodies look, rather than who they are on the inside. Nowadays, girls are learning from a very early age that there is power in their bodies. What they need to know is that there is power in their minds. They have the power to do anything and everything. We have to make sure they know this. We have to make sure they know it and live it.

Blessings,
Archuleta

New and You

Hello All,
This will be the year to speak up. Progress will not be gained by remaining silent. In any situation, think about what you want the outcome to be. Then ask yourself what you need to do to make it happen. You must speak up in all your relationships. Even where there is difficulty and you're facing difficult situations. Your words are important and have power. God is going to ask you to do things that you know you can't do on your own. However, God is going to equip you and call you out of your comfortable, normal box. Seek Him. There are truths that God is going to reveal to you. He is going to confirm ideas and plans that you have had for a long time. He is going to place people in your life that will help you on your path. It will change your life forever. Stop operating in the past. Even if you are dwelling on something bad that happened yesterday, you are giving life to it.

This will be the year to speak loud! Your life will settle for mediocrity if you don't give this life all you've got. Promise yourself that you will not allow anyone or anything to halt your blessings. Promise that you will get out of your own way.

Take a deep breath, roll your sleeves up and get with it. Do it. Create it. Write it. Plan it. Make it ALL happen.

Blessings,
Archuleta

Who among us doesn't have an insecurity?

Hello All, One of my favorite cartoons growing up was Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang. The Thanksgiving specials were the best. Well, last week the gang was on television and it took me back to being 10 years old. Selfish Lucy, took Linus' blanket and made a kite out of it. Of course, Linus was furious and asked her why did she do this! As she proceeded to explain to him, she inadvertently let go of the kite (blanket). Linus chased it but couldn't catch it and he watched his precious blanket take flight. He couldn't think straight, couldn't eat and had to have Charlie Brown sit with him in order to sleep that night. No one was understanding his torment, except for Charlie Brown. The next day, the whole gang gathered around to tell him how stupid that blanket was and he was better off without it! Linus asked the group, "Who among you doesn't have an insecurity?" No one said anything. He began calling each of them out on their shortcomings. He stated that he needed his blanket and couldn't be functional without it. What is your security blanket? What are you holding onto today that you just refuse to let go of because you "need it"? Linus admitted he had an insecurity and needed his blanket or else he wouldn't be able to function. God understands your insecurities and is here for you, just like Charlie Brown was there for Linus. God will not be your crutch. God will not enable you. He will help you get rid of the thing that is hindering you from living your best life. We all have them. There are things and people that we cling to so that we don't have to face our fears and deal with issues. It is safer to rely on what's inside of the box rather than to step outside of it. If you want something you never had, you have to be in position to let go. Life changes and God needs us to be receptive to change so that we don't miss out on any of our blessings. Whatever you need, God has it. Let go and be free. Blessings, Archuleta

Stress Reliever

Hello All, I bought new pens today. Well, what's so special about that? This week has been busy, stressful and trying. I have been taking long breaths, praying and then praying more. Today, as I bought new pillows in Wal-Mart, I made my usual b-line for the pen aisle. I could feel my spirits rising. As I stood there with my head tilted to the right, the pretty pink one caught my eye. Home with me it went! Whatever happens to be going on in my world, buying pens and paper always make things better. I know that I will write with them the same day. Therapy. All is put back into perspective. Blessings, Archuleta

Ultimatums

What causes us to give another human being an ultimatum?  The inner time frame that we have established into the fibers of our being.  Once that time has elapsed, frustration kicks in and we become restless; angry even.  Oftentimes, the other person knows nothing of our time frame and frustration, and the ultimatum is a shocker.  Where is this coming from?  Human nature is an unyielding truth.  We can't help how we feel but we forget to share those feelings with the person that will be affected by it.  We always hope for the best and we think time is our friend.  Time is not our friend.  We let time take over and have control.  That is not time's job and it hates being put in these situations.  One of the main reasons is communication.  We really suck at it.  This menacing, almost torturing deliberation, is our friend.  It is always there, however, we take it for granted.  We rarely recognize its importance until its too late.

Reconnect

Hello All,
I started to think about my family and friends today. I was alarmed at the amount of time that has passed since I spoke with certain people! It is not because I don't want anything to do with them, but life gets busy and before you know it, a year or more has passed.

I also thought if something were to happen and I never had another conversation with that person, it would be terrible. So, I have promised myself to reconnect with family and friends AND continue to stay in touch. It is easier said than done, but making a conscious effort and having the desire to do it is the first step.

As you go about the hustle and bustle of the holidays, don't forget about what is really important. Love and fellowship with those you hold dear. Also, this may be a good time for forgiveness and putting old things to rest. God wants to do a new thing in all of us! Now is the time!

Be Blessed,

Archuleta

Season of Giving, Season of Change

Hello All,
During this time of year, I usually begin to hibernate. My actions and thoughts go under the covers with a warm cup of tea. I begin to reflect on the year and set goals for the upcoming one. These reflections can be exciting and at times sad.

However, this year, I have not had the desire to hibernate. Not in the least. Instead, I am bursting with energy and ready to get the new year going now! It is a change for me, but it just proves that God is ready to do a new thing with me. I can feel it deep down in my spirit and I am excited. Now, it's not to say that everything is perfect. In fact, some things in my life right now are beyond words. But, that is where my faith has to rise to the occasion.

My season of hibernation is over. God is bringing me into a new season and I am ready for it. I know that God has the right people, the right resources, and the right circumstances in place. All I have to do is be open and ready to receive what He has for me.

As 2012 approaches, identify what season God has you and be at peace with it. If you are in a season of hibernation, then hibernate. If God has you in a season of action, then act. God has you where you are for a reason. Your job is to use that space to connect with God so that He can guide you through the process.

Be Blessed,
Archuleta

Never Give Up

Hello All,
Last night, I was watching Chopped, a cooking competition on the Food Network. Four chefs begin with a mystery basket of ingredients. They must use all of the ingredients in some way. After each round, the chef with the worst dish will be chopped. One of the chefs was a 26 year old from New York City. He had been cooking since he was 15 and suffered from Fibromyalgia. He also battled depression and low self esteem. He walked into the competition already defeated, telling himself that he could not do it. At the same time, he desperately wanted to win and prove to himself that he was worthy.

During the first round, he struggled. He was nervous, couldn't think straight, and simply forgot how to do things he does everyday. He told himself that he would eliminated, so "why am I even trying?" His appetizer looked awful and it seemed that he was going home. The judges told him that he was better than that, and he needed to find a way to put his doubts in check. At the end of round one, another chef was eliminated because she forgot to use one of the ingredients in the mystery box.

Round two began, and he put his game face on! With his main dish, he blew the other chefs out of the water! No one could believe the turnaround. He proved that he could win the competition. After the final round, he did win the competition and $10,000. You could tell that he hadn't smiled like that in a long time! As I watched him, I was so proud of what he accomplished. He fought through adversity, his pain, and his doubts to achieve his goal. All he needed was someone to say, "You are better than this."

Sometimes, the odds are against us. It looks like we are out of the game. But, if you can pull enough strength to tell yourself, "I am better than this...I can do this", change starts to occur immediately. Change refuses to let us give up. Change shows us that we are capable of doing the impossible.

Never give up!
